Power stocks failing to boost FTSE

The FTSE 100 is down 46 points, or 0.71%, to 6,478.1 in early trading, following a heavy fall on Wall Street yesterday and a fall among property companies.

Hammerson is the biggest loser with a fall of 2.63% to £16.29, closely followed by Man Group which has dropped 2.18% to 561.5p, while ICAP has slipped 1.86% to 515.25p, and Next is down 1.85% to £23.82. SABMiller is also among the fallers in early trading with a fall of 1.74% to £11.86, although losses are being limited by Scottish & Southern Energy which has climbed 0.81% to £14.98. International Power is posting the biggest gains with a rise of 1.24% to 449p, closely followed by Rio Tinto which is up 1.02% to £35.75, while Yell Group has added 1.01% to 502.5p, and Northern Rock has ad...
