FTSE slender on lower lenders

Financials are being smashed in London this morning following release of the HBOS 2007 final results, the index is currently down 48 points (0.79%) to 6039.40.

HBOS is leading the losses despite its results showing slightly better than expected profits, it is 7.94% lower to 649. Fellow lender Alliance & Leicester is also sharply down, 5.58% to 566.50; while the London Stock Exchange Group is 3.97% behind to 1450. Barclays and RBS are also lower. Rio Tinto is leading the gains on a solid start for miners, up 1.34% to 5833. Homebuilder Persimmon is also ahead 1.12% to 769; while home improvement and DIY retail group Kingfisher is 1.04% up to 135.70.
