FTSE nursing huge loss in global sell-off

London's markets saw a major sell-off in late trading as investors digested a wealth of bad news in the retail sector.

The FTSE100 was pushed lower as a result and sat at 3,813.2 shortly after 3.00pm, a fall of 192.48 points, or 4.81%. Miners weighed on the index again, with Vedanta Resources down 17.75% and Xstrata dropping 14.74%. Insurers also suffered, with Aviva down 19.05% while Prudential lost 17.01%. Wall Street saw shares tumble once again after investors in Europe and Asia became increasingly nervous, and the Dow Jones fell 179.77 points (2.25%) to 7,817.51 in early trade. Tech and telecoms firms fared relatively, well, with Verizon adding 1.74% to $27.41, followed by Hewlett Packard, up 1....
