RBS rumours push FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 is slightly up in early trading with a rise of 5.6 points, or 0.08%, to 6,682.3, as miners and financials push the index higher.

Royal Bank of Scotland is posting the biggest gains with a rise of 1.5% to 641.5p, on rumours it may put Southern Water up for sale for around £4bn, while Schroders NV Non-VTG is up 1.23% to £12.33. Among miners Xstrata is up 1.29% to £29.93, closely followed by Vedanta Resources which has added 1.16% to £15.68, while Home Retail has advanced 1.14% to 488.5p, although gains are being limited by Rexam which is down 0.92% to 540p. Tate & Lyle is the biggest loser with a drop of 1.51% to 588.5p, closely followed by GlaxoSmithKline which is down 1.08% to £12.78, while Reed Elsevier has slip...
