Aviva clashes with Which? over assets - papers 3rd February

BRITAIN'S BIGGEST insurer was yesterday squaring up for a battle with the country's most powerful consumer body over the break-up of £3.3bn worth of assets, reports The Times .

According to the paper, Aviva is investigating the possibility of distributing the excess assets from two of its with-profits funds to shareholders and policyholders. As many as 1.4m policyholders could receive a windfall if the re-attribution goes ahead. But a fight is brewing between the insurance giant and Which?, over how the assets, known as the inherited estate, are carved up. The consumer champion insisted yesterday that, under government rules, policyholders must be given the vast majority of the windfall, with just a small share going to shareholders.
