House of Fraser reports loss but FTSE still climbs

Trading is a little more confident this morning as House of Fraser, one of the struggling high street retailers, has revealed its losses have at least reduced.

The FTSE 100 index is already up 21.9 points or 0.5% to 4589 within the first hour, on top of yesterday's 0.6% gain, while the FTSE All-Share index also rose 0.3% to 2275. House of Fraser is actually up 8p or 6.8% to 125 even though the UK’s third largest department store chain is making a loss. That loss has now halved compared with the previous period. Money handlers seem to be doing well this morning as Royal Bank of Scotland has gained 15p or 0.9% to £16.17 while Schroders, the money manager, added 19.5p or 3.1% to 649p.
