The government has delayed the pensions related parts of new age discrimination rules by two months.
It seems the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has bowed to pressure from employers to give them more time to adjust to the new rules. As a result European age discrimination legislation, being brought in through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), will not apply to pensions until 1 December 2006. James Purnell, Minister for Pensions Reform, says the measure is in response to concerns voiced by both employers and the industry about the regulations which are scheduled to come into effect on 1 October.
