Mining stocks pushed the FTSE 100 higher, as it ended the day up 37.5 points, or 0.63%, to 5,986.6 to finish at its best levels of the day.
Rising metal prices led mining stocks higher, with Kazakhmys giving the best performance with gains of 47p, or 3.79% to £12.87, while BHP Billiton added 2.78% to £10.35, Anglo American added 3.09% to £24.03 and Rio Tinto jumped 3.35% to £27.75, as silver hit three month highs. However, energy firms fell after as oil prices for October delivery fell below $70 a barrel in the US on Friday, with BG Group the biggest loser with a drop of 1.44% to 684p, while Cairn Energy slipped 1.35% to £21.16.
