BA helps FTSE fly high

Travel-related companies have helped the FTSE end the day up 11.70 points (0.21%) to 5489.20, after a volatile day.

British Airways flew to the top of the pile with gains of 20.75 (8.14%) to 275.75p. Thomas Cook saw its share prices rise by 7.72% to 237.25p while Tui Travel is up 7.71% to 237.50p. However, mining stocks will be looking to dig themselves out of a hole next week as Kazakhmys realised the biggest loss, down 86 or 6.45% to1248p. Ferrexpo, Vedanta Resources, Xstrata and Antofagasta’s share prices all took a knock. On Wall street, markets had a buoyant start rising 189.87 points (1.66%) to 11621.30. Home Depot is leading the pack, up 1.35 (5.51%) to 25.83, while McDonalds added 2.39 (...
