Miners lift FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 Index has added 59.90 points, or 1.1%, to 5724.90 this morning, as all but six of its 102 stocks has shown rises.

Mining companies BHP Billiton and Anglo American have paced the benchmark as metal prices climbed while BP has gained as rising oil prices in New York. BHP Billiton, the world's largest mining company, has climbed 1.3% to 1015p, gaining for a third day. Anglo American has also advanced 2.4% to 2159p. Copper prices have also risen in London after stockpiles declined to their lowest in four months, signaling global supply may not be growing quickly enough to meet demand.
