In London, markets climbed as Northern Rock's share price continued to recover and the FTSE 100 was up 17.6 points, or 0.27%, to 6,633.
Northern Rock shares surged 66.75 points, or 32.29%, to 273.5p, while Schroders gained 81 points, or 5.71%, to £15.00. British Airways added 19.25 points, or 4.59%, to 439p, Xstrata gained 146 points, or 4.41%, to £34.55, and Schroders NV climbed 53 points, or 4.27%, to £12.94. Experian shares dropped 38 points, or 7%, to 505p, HBOS lost 29.5 points, or 3.09%, to 926p, and Shire Ordinance fell 26 points, or 2.1%, to £12.15.
