Gov't plans won't solve pension problems

The pension white paper proposals will help ease the problems with the state pension system but it won't solve them, says the Pensions Policy Institute.

In its response to the consultation on the white paper, which closed on Monday, the PPI says the proposals will help to equalise outcomes from the state pensions, while an increase in retirement age will improve the sustainability of the system, but it warns the system is still too complicated. Niki Cleal, director of the PPI, says: “The system remains complex and the amount of state pension income people will receive is uncertain, even after the reforms. This complexity and uncertainty means it may be difficult to give clear generic advice about the value of saving in personal accounts.”...
