Elections centre stage - papers 11 April

A political lull created by the funeral of the Pope and the second marriage of the Prince of Wales has been unbroken by a ‘joint' attack on Tory immigration policy and its party leader Michael Howard's launch of a manifesto.

The Daily Telegraph says the attacks by Labour and the Lib Dems on immigration policy is a sign it is winning widespread support. ”In what appeared to be a co-ordinated ploy, the two parties accused the Conservative leader of crudely exploiting the issue in order to boost the Tories' chances on May 5,” the paper writes. The paper further cites a YouGov poll putting the Tories and Labour “neck and neck” at 35% apiece. The Scotsman says the clear focus on rattling the cage on asylum and immigration has not taken into account Scottish need, but is firmly intended for the English voter...
