FTSE slips on oil

The FTSE 100 Index has slipped 19.6 points, or 0.3%, to 5972.1 points this morning led by oil companies as crude oil trades near a one-week low.

BP has lost 1.4% to 648.5p and Shell has dipped 1.2% to 1,729p. Kingfisher has fallen 1.4% to 239.5p after it announced a second-half loss of £26m as it closed some stores and cut jobs in an effort to invigorate the performance of its faltering B&Q chain. Profit for the year fell 69%. BAE Systems has also lost 0.6% to 417.5p. The company said it is not making an offer for US defence electronics company L-3 Communications Holdings, denying a report in the Guardian newspaper.
