Natural resources boosts FTSE

The natural resources sector boosted the FTSE this morning. The exchange opened at 6231.3p after rising 16.1 points, or 0.26%.

Vedanta Resources leaped 58 points, or 3.58%, to 1676p, and BHP Billiton rose 42 points, or 3.09%, to 1403p. Kazakhmys rose 31 points, or 2.53%, to 1257p. Imperial Chemical Industries rose 45 points, or 7.8%, to 622p. Cadbury Schweppes dropped 18 points, or 2.98%, to 585.5p. Man Group fell 10.5 points, or 1.87%, to 552.5p. 3i Group fell 16 points, or 1.49%, to 1057p. Drax lost eight points, or 1.19%, to 662p. Severn Trent fell 15 points, or 1.1%, to 1286p.
