Retailers lift FTSE

The benchmark FTSE 100 is currently up about 2 points to 4,526 after UK stocks rose for the third day in four, paced by UK retailers.

Tesco, the UK's largest supermarket chain, rose 4.75p to 256.5p. Dixons, another retailer, also climbed 1.3% to 162p. Next gained 0.9% to 1,399p after analysts at Dutch bank ABN Amro advised investors to buy the retailer's stock. In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index lost 224.83 points to 10,644.13 earlier today, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 13.24 points to 13,778.31. In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average index ended down 9.41 points at 10,609.62 yesterday and the S&P 500 index lost 3.12 points to 1,140.99.
