Strong reports boost Friday FTSE

The FTSE 100 has started well this morning as Wall Street gains and strong company reports boost week ending investor confidence. The index is 43.60 points (0.7%) ahead to 6295.40.

News British Energy has received a range of takeover proposals led the nuclear power generator to the top spot so far, up 5.37% to 716.50. ICAP and 3i Group have also started strongly, up 4.17% to 661.50 and 3.97% to 930.50. British Airways has leapt ahead as it reported year to March profits jumped to £883m. The airline is 3.79% higher to 232.50 J Sainsbury is the leading the losses along with a weak mining sector, the supermarket is down 1.85% to 370.50. In New York, news billionaire Carl Icahn might force control of the Yahoo board to revive the Microsoft deal led the Tech sect...
