Miners build up FTSE

The FTSE 100 is up 27.2 points, or 0.42% to 6,446.7 in early trading as miners lead the way after metal prices have steadied.

Kazakhmys is posting the biggest gains with a rise of 2.64% to £11.28, closely followed by Anglo American which is up 2.05% to £25.90, while Lonmin has advanced 2% to £32.60. Experian is also up 1.8% to 623p, while Hammerson has added 1.57% to £16.84, although utilities shares are limiting gains with Centrica down 0.47% to 373.25p, while Shire has slipped 0.56% to £10.73. However United Utilities is the biggest loser at the moment with a fall of 1.43% to 759p, closely followed by Kelda Group which is down 0.48% to 933.5p, while Reed Elsevier has slipped 0.47% to 633p.
