FTSE climbs on HSBC's strong cash call

The FTSE 100 is in positive territory this morning with financials climbing on the back of the strong take-up of HSBC's rights issue. At 8.20am, the index was 38.29 points higher, or 0.95%, to 4,067.96.

HSBC has increased 2.59% to 445.75 points following news investors bought 96.6% of the shares offered in its record £12.9bn cash call. Barclays was up 5.11% to 179.10 points on plans to commit billions in additional lending to UK businesses and homeowners, while RBS is up 4.58% to 32 points, despite shareholders overwhelmingly rejecting the bank's remuneration report on Friday. The healthcare sector is among the early losses, with GlaxoSmithKline falling 0.67% to 1,044.50 and AstraZeneca dropping 1.05% to 2,358.00.
