Stunning Wall St surge powers FTSE

The FTSE100 is sharply higher this morning after an extraordinary late surge on Wall Street drove the Dow Jones IA 6.67% ahead on Thursday.

At 8.50am, London's blue chip index had advanced 141.48 points, or 3.39%, to 4,310.69. Miners and financials are leading the way so far, with Anglo American 9.21% up to 1363. Fellow resources giant Xstrata has climbed 7.04% - while insurer Aviva is 7.51% ahead and Standard Chartered 7.26% higher. No stock is in significant decline. On the continent, Frankfurt's Dax jumped 3.38% early and Paris' CAC 40 lifted 2.63%.
