Contracting-out for defined contribution (DC) schemes will be abolished although the Bill does not give a specific date for this to happen.
The first Pensions Bill, which will be known as the Pensions Act 2007 when it receives Royal Assent, says once contracting-out is abolished schemes will be automatically contracted back into the State Second pension. But although it has previously been suggested this will be from 2012, the actual Bill does not provide a firm date, merely stating the abolition will come into force from a date to be specified by the Secretary of State.
