In London, markets rallied as the situation improved in the banking sector, with the FTSE 100 gaining 24.8 points, or 0.38%, to 6,453.8.
British Energy Group added 32 points, or 6.55%, to 520.5p, while Northern Rock climbed 8.1 points, or 4.37%, to 193.3p. Vedanta shares gained 70 points, or 3.39%, to £21.35, Resolution shares were up 18.5 points, or 2.7%, to 702.5p, while Rexam jumped 13.5 points, or 2.55%, to 543p. Kingfisher shares fell 6.3 points, or 3.48%, to 174.7p, Kelda shares dropped 27.5 points, or 3.08%, to 864.5p, while Yell group lost 12.75 points, or 3%, to 412.5p.
