FTSE flourishing on financial fight-back

The FTSE 100 has jumped in early morning trading as Standard Life and the financials dominate action.

The index is currently on 6349.10, up 44.20 points, or 0.7%. Standard Life has soared on news it has decided not to pursue Resolution, the insurer is already 26.25 points up, or 10.77%, to 270. Northern Rock is up on news another private equity group wants a stake in the company. The lender is 8.30 points ahead, or 5.72%, to 153.30. Royal Bank of Scotland is also doing well, as are Barclays and a number of other banks, currently 22.50 points higher, or 5.59%, to 425.25.
