Specialist sector comparisons branded 'pointless'

The composition of funds in the IMA Specialist category are so diverse it is pointless to use the sector as a comparison tool, Hargreaves Lansdown argues.

Specialist funds dominated performance in May, with the top 10 performers all coming from the popular sector. Neptune Latin America, which returned 13.81%, was the top performing offering in May – closely followed by F&C Latin American Equity (13.05%). Advisers seem to be jumping on board as well, with five of the top 10 selling funds on the Hargreaves Lansdown Vantage Supermarket coming from the Specialist sector.
