Independent label still valid with packaged products - Aifa

IFAs should be able to maintain their independent status under depolarisation and use packaged products from life companies, says the AIFA, despite recent comments from the FSA to the contrary.

David Severn, director general at the Association of IFAs says financial advisers are able to maintain their independent status with whatever product they advise is most suitable for consumers and even if they use a product panel to drill down the range, as FSA rules allows such practice providing the firm can show it regularly reviews the panel and does not base panel decisions on commission payments.
