Vodafone pushes FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 has started the day up 20.90 points, or 0.32%, to 6,543.6, as miners and telecoms push the index higher.

Vodafone is leading the charge with a rise of 2.13% to 158.4p, as the group has come under pressure to return profit to shareholders, while BHP Billiton is up 1.74% to £12.85, and Compass Group has gained 1.38% to 366.25p. DSG International has also climbed 1.52% to 167.3p, while GlaxoSmithKline has added 1.34% to £12.89, although gains are being limited by International Power which is down 1.37% to 433p. However, Kelda Group is the biggest loser with a fall of 1.48% to 963p, closely followed by BAE Systems which has slipped 1.25% to 433p, while Drax has fallen 1.23% to 760p, and Punch ...
