Money market madness lifts FTSE

Strong earnings potential for money managers Schroders and Amvescap lifted the FTSE 100 back over the 4400 mark.

After a strong rally throughout the day, the FTSE 100 index rose 37.4 points or 0.9% to 4406.6 by close of business while the FTSE All-Share index gained 0.8% to 2194 and the FTSE 250 index earned 0.9% to 6016. Amvescap eventually closed up 7p or 2.6% to 276.25p while Schroders earned 24.5p or 4.61% to 555.5p. British Airways also saw its share price rise 4.5p or 0.82% to 551.5p after successfully reaching a pay deal with unions to avert an August Bank Holiday strike. Imperial Chemical Industries gained 2.75p or 1.29% to 216.5p and GSK also closed up 14p or 1.3% to £10.87. Vodaf...
