FTSE climbs in Wed trading

The FTSE maintained a strong start to finish the day up 62.6 points, or 0.94%, to 6721.60.

DSG International climbed 8.6 points, or 7.11%, to 129.5p. It was followed by Mitchells & But, up 40.5 points, or 6.48%, to 655.5p, and Taylor Wimpey, up 14 points, or 6%, to 247.5p. Gains were stemmed by losses for Unilever, down 27p to £16.25, British Energy, down 7p to 533p, and Sainsbury, down 6p to 547p. In the US, the Dow Jones has enjoyed a bright start, climbing 60.48 points, or 0.44%, to 13852.95. Microsoft leads the day’s early winners, climbing 0.86 points to 36.43.
