FTSE continues sluggish streak

A sluggish day on the FTSE yesterday has slinked over to Thursday with the index dropping 44p, or 0.79%, in early trading.

Rentokil has made significant gains so far, jumping 13.5p, or 18.54%, to 86.3. The pest-control firm ousted CEO Doug Flynn three weeks after forecasting a drop in profit this year. Its early rise in the index may be attributed to announcements Alan Brown, former chief financial officer at Imperial Chemical Industries, will replace Flynn. Rentokil is followed by AstraZeneca, up 41p to £18.83, and Unilever, which is also in the black.
