FTSE falls while Dow rises

The FTSE fell 8.1 points, or 0.13%, to 6021.1p this morning as Carphone Warehouse Group dropped 13.25 points, or 3.9%, to 326.25p. The group rose last Thursday following rumours of a bid from US electronics business Best Buy.

Man Group fell 15.5 points, or 2.66%, to 567.5p. Taylor Wimpey rose 7.25 points, or 3.76%, to 200.25p, and Anglo American rose 95 points, or 3.26%, to 3005p after joining China Development Bank on natural resources projects. The Dow Jones rose 92.83 points, or 0.73%, to 12743.19c after Alcoa took a $14bn stake in Rio Tinto. The aluminum producer rose 1.19 points, or 3.6%, to 34.28c. Intel rose 0.67 points, or 3.17%, to 21.77c while Microsoft fell 2.15 points, or 6.6%, to 30.45c. Home Depot fell 0.19 points, or 0.62%, to 30.45c.
