The FTSE 100 is starting to claw back some of the stellar losses incurred in recent days, despite a sharp fall in Asia overnight - the index is currently 56.4 points up, or 0.96%, to 5915.3.
Financials seem to be back in favour this morning, with mortgage lender Northern Rock beginning to retract some of its heavy losses, currently 29.5 points up, or 4.48%, to 688.5. Standard Life is also having a good opening, up 12 points, or 4.2%, to 297.5. Private equity giants, the 3i Group also looks the goods, up 36.5 points, or 3.73% to 1016. Vedanta Resources, the metals and mining group, has lost the most ground early, down 24 points, or 1.60%, to 1474; while Whitbread has fallen 15 points, or 1.04%, to 1432.
