FTSE higher but signs point to fall

A positive start for the FTSE 100 is being eroded by the minute this morning; the index is currently just hanging on, 3.20 points (0.05%) ahead to 5882.50.

Insurance company Admiral has raced out of the blocks, 3.31% up to 966.50. Vedanta is leading a good morning for mining stocks; a UBS upgrade has propelled the giant up 2.74% to 2059. The UK’s largest security solutions company Group 4 Securicor is also doing well, 2.21% ahead to 219.25. Transport firm FirstGroup is being hammered after a poor forecast from rival Go-Ahead Group, First is 4.8% lower to 615. Alliance & Leicester and British Land are also struggling, down 2.58% to 529.50 and 2.01% to 949.50 respectively. In New York, Wall Street lost ground in late Thursday trading af...
