The London Stock Exchange Group made remarkable gains in early trading on Thursday to drive the FTSE 100 up by 2.77% to 5,764.7.
The group climbed 147p, or 9.32%, to £17.25 by 9.50am, and was closely followed by HBOS, up 8.53% to 687p, and Prudential, up 49p, or 7.83%, to 675p. However, gains have been stemmed by losses for Scottish & Newcastle, down 31.5p to 703.5p and GlaxoSmithKline, down 7p to £12.01. In the US, the Dow Jones also made gains, climbing 298.98 points, or 2.5%, to 12,270.17. JPMorgan Chase made the biggest gains, climbing 4.86 points, or 11.89%, to 45.72, followed by GEN Motors, up 2.05, or 8.67%, to 25.7, and Intel Corporation, up 1.35 points, or 7.25%, to 19.98.
