FTSE drops despite nuclear deal

The FTSE is currently down 2.85 points (0.06%) to 5133.27 despite an EDF buy-out.

Tui Travel is leading the losses with a 7.5 (3.57%) drop to 202.5p. Inmarsat is close behind with losses of 19 (3.45%) to 531p. Vedanta Resources and Next’s share prices have also fallen slightly. However, a takeover deal from EDF to buy British Energy Group has boosted the British company’s shares by 46 (6.35%) to 770p. EDF will take over the UK nuclear power plant operator in a £12.5bn pact. Also seeing a positive start is Fresnillo, climbing 3.35% to 3.47.25. Imperial Tobacco Group, Smiths Group and Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Group have also made early gains. On Wall Street, th...
