FTSE recovers to positive end

Shares in London rallied after a sell off in early trading, with the FTSE 100 closing up 57.4 points (1.05%) to 5528.10.

Petrofac shares climbed 37p (6.35%) to 629.5p, topping the winner’s table, while Group 4 Securicor added 12.5p(5.91%) to 224p. Ent Inns dropped 14p (4.35%) to 307.5p and Admiral Group’s share prices declined by 28.5p(2.97%) to 931p. After a slow start, Wall Street trading improved, with the Dow Jones index adding 43.4 points (0.38%) to 11,456.27. America International Group added 0.36 (1.83%) to $20 while AT&T gained 0.44 (1.44%) to $31.06. However, Pfizer shed 0.3 (1.56%) to $18.98 followed by McDonalds which slides 0.4 (0.64%) to $61.73.
