Commodities drag on FTSE

The FTSE 100 has ended the day down 29.3 points, or 0.46%, to 6,353.5, as commodity prices fell.

Cairn Energy was the biggest loser with a fall of 3.33% to £16.27, closely followed by Man Group which dropped 2.62% to 576p, while Reuters Group slipped 2.55% to 430.5p, and ITV dropped 2.22% to 110p. BG Group also dropped 2.1% to 723.5p, although losses were slightly limited by BSkyB which gained 0.8% to 566p, while Smith & Nephew rose 0.86% to end the session at 612.25p. However Rolls-Royce posted the biggest gains with a rise of 2.84% to 516.5p, closely followed by Vodafone which climbed 1.34% to 151.25p on takeover news, while Imperial Tobacco Group added 0.96% to £22.03.
