Rate cut hopes spark FTSE slide

A cautious opening on the day the Bank of England is expected to cut interest rates has has seen the FTSE 100 slide 38.4 points, or 0.65%, to 5,837.

Yell Group, down 40.75p, or 12.35%, to 289.25p, has suffered the heaviest losses in early trading, followed by BT Group, down 7.71% to 242.5p, and Rolls-Royce, down 5.73% to 452.5p. BG Group is providing the stiffest resistance, climbing 50p, or 4.64%, to £11.27. It is followed by Anglo American, Barclays, Persimmon, and Taylor Wimpey. In the US, the Dow Jones yesterday suffered marginal losses, the index slipping 65.03 points, or 0.53%, to 12,200.1.
