Ombudsman to investigate misleading advice allegations

Allegations surround literature published in 1999 and updated in 2002 - which government departments describe as information rather than advice - had suggested occupational pension scheme benefits were "guaranteed" . Literature has since been reworded to describe defined benefit or final salary pension schemes as carrying employer 'promised' rather than the earlier description of 'guarantees'.
