The FTSE 100 made early losses today, losing 16.3 points, or 0.25%, to settle on 6504.1 at around 9.45am.
Chemical firm Johnson Mathey suffered the most early doors, dropping 36 points, or 2.12%, to £16.59. This was closely followed by Cable and Wireless, down 3.7 points, or 1.84%, to 197.8p, and construction supplier Wolseley, down 22 points, or 1.76%, to £12.30. However, these losses were stemmed by gains for Royal and Sun Alliance, up 3.9 points, or 2.59%, to 154.3p, and Sainsbury, up eight points, or 1.45%, to 559p. In the US, the Dow Jones finished down 129.95 points, or 0.97%, to 13295.01. The index was helped throughout the day by gains for Intel Corporation, up 0.27 points, or 1.23%...
