In London, the FTSE 100 leaped forward in early trading and was up 52.2 points, or 0.85%, to 6186.3.
British Energy shares made the biggest gains, rising 14 points, or 2.94%, to 490.5p. Barclays shares added 12 points, or 2.07%, to 592p, closely followed by Wolseley, which saw shares gain 19 points, or 2.05%, to 947p. BG Group jumped 16 points, or 2.02%, to 807p, while Next shares were up 33 points, or 1.77%, to £18.94. DSG International was the biggest loser this morning, down 2.1 points, or 1.43%, to 145.1p, Home Retail lost 3 points, or 0.76%, to 391p, and Land Securities dropped 3 points, or 0.18%, to £17.00.
