IFA Comment: We're not to blame for stakeholder

The comments made by John Hutton, secretary of state for work and pensions, have provoked a flurry of responses from IFAs.

Speaking at The Work Foundation yesterday, Hutton said advice was the reason stakholder charges did not go below 1% and that the NPSS proposes to cut costs by reducing "expensive, highly tailored, independent financial advice". IFA Ian Mason, says all IFAs want is a bit of clarity. “I’m most amused about the fact they said IFAs killed the stakeholder. It’s not a question of whether it makes money or not, its whether it’s the best advice to give the client.
