The government is looking to legislate all the pension reforms put forward in next week's white paper in this parliament, although not all will take effect until the next session.
Speaking at the Fabian Society on the subject of ‘Women and Pensions’, John Hutton, secretary of state for work and pensions, confirmed there would be more than one piece of legislation. He says the government plans to start with a package of reforms around the state pension, including measures to make the system fairer for both women and carers, as he claims it is an area on which the government cannot afford to wait any longer.
