FTSE slightly up

The benchmark FTSE 100 is currently up about 4 points to 4,562 after UK stocks commenced trading on a mixed note.

Anglo American, the world's second largest mining company, added 13p to 1,383p. BHP Billiton, the world's No.1 miner, rose 0.8% to 509.5p. British Airways climbed 6p to 321.5p after the company reported passenger traffic rose by 7.1% in February, boosted by lower fares and economic growth. Gallaher dropped 6p to 679.5p after UBS cut its rating on the cigarette maker's stock to "reduce" from "neutral". In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index gained 135.50 points to 11,537.29 earlier today, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng index only made a feeble rise as it added 3.20 points to 13,454.76. ...
