FTSE ends the week on a high

Having suffered on the back of rising oil prices earlier in the week, the FTSE 100 index eventually managed to close up as most of the stocks made reasonable gains.

The FTSE 100 index closed up 19 points or 0.4% to 4454 by end of trading in London, while the FTSE 250 index gained 0.8% to 6096 and the FTSE All-Share ended 0.4% up at 2213. Cable & Wireless ended up 4p or 3.14% to 131.5p along with mobile phone operator MMO2 which gained 2p or 2.05% to 99.75p. Insurance giant Aviva closed the day up 14.5p or 2.75% to 542p and British Airways gained 4.5p or 1.78% to 258p. BSkyB also added 13.5p or 2.31% to 598p, but rival terrestrial firm ITV suffered the biggest share price loss of the day, as it ended the day down 1.71p or 2% 115p. Financial ...
