Compass points FTSE northwards

Positive trading statements have pushed the FTSE 100 up 35 points, or 0.56%, to 6,302.2 in early trading.

Compass Group is posting the biggest gains with a rise of 5.47% to 337.5p, closely followed by Tate & Lyle which is up 5.05% to 572p, as both companies released upbeat figures. BAE Systems has also gained 2.11% to 459.5p, while miners are also doing well in early trades, with BHP Billiton up 1.98% to £11.32, while Lonmin has advanced 1.91% to £33.01. Kingfisher is the biggest loser so far with a drop of 2.31% to 264.75p, closely followed by Next which has slipped1.61% to £23.15, while WPP has dropped 0.96% to 774p, ICAP has fallen 0.95% to 523p, and National Grid has declined 0.7% to ...
