PBR: Pension credit to rise

The pension credit minimum guarantee will rise by £5 a week for a single person and £7.65 a week for a couple, Chancellor Gordon Brown has announced.

In his Pre-Budget report today, Brown states: “In addition to the Basic Pension rising from next April by 3.6% and the winter allowance, the pension credit minimum guarantee will rise by £5 a week for a single person and £7.65 a week for a couple.” In addition, low income pensioners will be provided with free central heating while all other pensioner households will be given extra support towards central heating. In the coming year, the Warm Front programme will be extended to provide 300,000 pensioner and other households most vulnerable to fuel poverty to have free insulation and cent...
