White paper should offer clear timetable - TUC

The white paper on pension reform, widely expected to be published on Thursday, should meet five key tests, including setting out a clear timetable for reform, if it is to build a new sustainable system, claims the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

It says the white paper offers a “once in a generation opportunity” to build a lasting pensions settlement which can command wide support and meet the needs of “today’s employees and tomorrow’s pensioners”. As a result, the TUC says the white paper must meet the following five tests: Does it have a clear timetable for index linking the state pension to earnings Does it offer a fairer deal for women with a clear timetable for change Are the costs of more generous pensions to be fairly shared Do employers have to contribute to staff pensions Is the model for a National Pension Sa...
