Aviva, the parent company of Norwich Union, has announced it will cut 4,000 jobs in an effort to save £250m by the end of 2008.
It says it plans to reduce duplication and improve efficiency to “deliver annual cost savings of £250 million in 2008 at a cost of £250 million by the end of 2007.” Aviva says the savings and costs will be evenly spread between the life and general insurance businesses, with Aviva’s current staff of 36,000 being reduced by 4,000 by 2008, with up to 1,000 jobs moved to India, and a further 500 jobs outsourced to third party IT suppliers.
