FTSE up after market turbulence

In London, markets suffered a turbulent day but the FTSE finished up by 23.2 points, or 0.37%, to 6,220.1.

Sage group saw the biggest gains, up 7.25, or 3.21%, to 233.25p, followed by BG Group, up 20.5, or 2.74%, to 769.5p. Wolseley shared added 27 points, or 2.64%, to £10.50, Rio Tinto gained 77 points, or 2.36%, to £33.39, and Sainsbury climbed 11.5p, or 2.16%, to 544.5p. Standard Chartered shared fell 77 points, or 4.9%, to £14.94, 3i Group dropped 46 points, or 4.26%, to £10.34, and British Energy Group shares slipped 12.25 points, or 2.67%, to 446.75p.
