FTSE bounces despite US tumble

The FTSE has climbed 9.76 points (0.23%) to 4191.78, despite disappointing losses in US and Asia overnight.

BT Group tops the winners table, adding 14.2p (12.62%) to 126.70 after it announced the loss of 10,000 jobs alongside an 11% drop in Q2 profit, better than forecast. Old Mutual gains 4.8p (9.7%) to 54.30, while Man Group lifts 17.250 (9.08%) to 207.25. Thomson Reuters climbs 91p (8.09%) to 1216.00. Publisher Reed Elsevier is up 37p (7.57%) to 526.00 as it confirmed it is on track to deliver its full-year goals of revenue growth and margin improvement.
